San Diego ComicCon Comicumentary, part four

August 23, 2010

Hello

Yes, while you are all moving on with your lives, getting ready to go back to school or home from summer vacation or back to work, I am still reliving my glory days from  last July as a ComicCon special guest.  As it was an unexpected honor I’ll probably never enjoy again, I feel the need to memorialize it in minute detail, if only for my own reflection.  I’m not sure how many more posts this will continue for, but I will eventually collect it all and make it into a minicomic.

And now, Friday at ComicCon:

Gabrielle (may I call you Gabrielle?),

I really appreciate all these stories you post, and I never miss one. Maybe I feel the need to say so because you sound to me like you’re apologizing for the work, or maybe that’s your brilliant scheme to drill for compliments, but many MANY compliments are indeed deserved. It honestly helps me to read this stuff, for a variety of reasons–from learning about Epicurus’s thoughts on happiness to seeing you and your friend debate the effect of capitalism on creativity.

Also, I love pulled pork on occasion, but I thought everyone was vegetarian these days.

Always good stuff. But should that be “I refuse to believe there is NO magic in the world?”

hmmm, yes, possibly. I had trouble wording that. Let me think about that…

I changed the wording a little.

I love the little footprints going back & forth between the tables.

And you really did the combover justice!

I’m really enjoying these – thanks for posting. I didn’t go this year, and missed out on my giant margarita jugs at the adequate mexican place, so this reminds me of what I missed.

    Tom cheated on her!

I should have mentioned here that “Tom” is not my boyfriend. He is my bachelor traveling companion and a free agent, and hasn’t cheated on anyone.

Oh I’m sure that this guy drawing on the beach only for his own enjoyment actually exists.

And also that he has another job.

“capitalism reaches in every part of the world” is another way to say that everybody needs food and a roof over their heads.

yeah, I think so too…the real argument got a bit lost in trying to fit all this information into these little boxes.

very nice. I went to Comic Con last year but spent most of my time on those awful portfolio reviews area. Since I’m an illustrator and not a comic book penciler, it was really a waste of time, but besides that I really enjoyed the Con.

Your comicumentary series is really great. Keep making those and I’ll keep reading :)

Our outlooks on life are so different! I liked the first part that showed how you grew as an artist and a person
