Here We Go Again, concluded

June 9, 2010

This is the conclusion to my journal of France, and it is very late, due to waffling, woolgathering and wallowing (in self-pity).  I seem to be losing my edge here, and since nobody is making me  or paying me to do this, I’ve decided to take some time off from this blog.  In fact, I started this thing as a relief and a diversion from the toil of working on my graphic novel, but somehow it’s turned around completely and I just want to get back to the (relatively)  fun, easy book that I’ve been terribly neglecting.

I’ll be back in about five weeks, more or less, or when it gets fun again. I’ll be posting announcements and things here as they come up, like the schedule of my appearances at the upcoming San Diego Comic Con, so check back here if you are curious.  Maybe I’ll finally manage to post some sketches.

by the way, for this comic I’d like to thank my good friend Gerard Depardieu for helping me to write all that French and the English approximations, and Tony and Layla for helping with some details about the beach, even though I still got it wrong.

And now, the straw that broke this camels back: (if you click on it twice it should be legible)

Very enjoyable to read. The language barrier I haven’t had much experience with, but you seem to convey the real problems involed. Love your style, and the pure expression!

Wonderful! I love the panel where you work out why you can’t start drawing Batman. Really, really love it.

Seems like your French ain’t so bad… My sister claims she doesn’t speak a word of French, but she’s totally fluent in “Patisserie.” Put her in Paris and she can order any damn pastry you can think of. But finding a hotel room? Nah…

Hey, just loved both posts about your french odyssea. The plane sequence, when you dont feel like drawing are just genious! Sorry to hear you wont be posting for some weeks… I’ll miss seeing your updates on my Google reader! :)

Gosh, and I like to tell myself my French is okay, but I can’t be any better than you. Clearly what you need (patronizing voice) is to delude yourself into a state of confidence. Just drink more at your booth next time.

I love your work, the journal comics are no exception, but I’m excited that you’ll be working more on your graphic novel! I’ll be at Comic Con and I look forward to meeting you.

Yes, do come say hi in San Diego. And my French is pretty bad, I think I didn’t convey it very well. I should have written it out phonetically. You’re right that it’s got a lot to do with confidence…just can’t seem to drink enough to get there!
