    While your compost may have been releasing methane, it wasn’t the methane you were smelling. Methane is odorless. The natural gas that people use to cook and heat with has a nasty smell added so that people will be able to smell a gas leak. (https://www.nwnatural.com/Residential/Safety/GasLeaks/SmellRottenEggs)
