This is All I’ve Got

April 26, 2010

As much as I hate to publish unpolished, unedited, unfinished work, I hate even more to have nothing to show at all…and I’m fresh out of good reusable reruns…so this is a fragmented diary of my trip to Stockholm, where I still am now.  Actually, I didn’t even make it past the first morning here.  Actually, this comic is everything that you hate about autobiographical comics, and I enjoyed drawing every detail.

I’ll try to post the rest of this weekend throughout the rest of this week…does that make sense? It’s late here.  And I apologize to all of you in this in this comic who I’ve rendered badly.  I promise you look better in real life.

If you click on the image twice it will be big enough to read, if you really want to do that.

p.s.-thanks to Johannes Klenell for letting me use a scanner at the Galago offices so I could upload this on time.

    Gabrielle,

Thought i’d drop a line and let you know I love your stuff. I just started writing comics and my prof actually told me that I should read your stuff. And I have been and love it. Feel free to check out my work as well, fionakilla.blogspot.com.

    Take care!

I really love stuff like this… and I don’t mind at all that it’s not “perfect”! It captures the moment and adds so much to the comic. I like the retired capt. guy… thanks for posting!

Terrific stuff – whatever you say, some people can do autiobio and most can’t. You belong in the former camp, no question.

“Elijahsnadofoluh” is going to be my fantasy volcano of choice from now on.

I hear your voice in my head as I read this.
Soft boiled eggs are a challenge to get just right.
How do you do it? (all of it…not just the eggs)
Hope to cross your path again soon!

boil water, then boil eggs for six minutes. I used to think five, but now I think six is best. So good. Hope to see you soon too!

Thank you to all of you for your generous and encouraging words. It sure makes it easier to post more of these scratchings, which I will be doing in the next few days.

I really love this “unfinished work”, Gabrielle. The drawing is really fresh and expressive, especially the 2nd page. Post more like this please!

I agree! I love the “sloppy” drawings. they really create a mood. I also love your take on keeping a diary. I have read comic travelogues and diaries and I always think they must be bullshitting if they keep it up EVERYSINGLE day even though they are on exciting trips, meeting exciting people. anyway, this is great! thanks.

I love these comics. I especially liked the part about the janitor “…or has discovered a cure for cancer, but no one will listen to him.” Brilliant!

It’s a pleasure to see your “raw” work.

    Please post more!
