Excellent. Great subversion of expectations at the end. And really, your use of color is just beautiful these days.

“I started to think of the people in my life, and the people not in my life, and the people all over the world, going about their lives, the star of their own show, not in relation or contrast to me, each a tapestry as complex and vibrant and flawed and intense as my own is to me.”

I think you’ve practiced this philosophy, unconsciously or not, in your comics. I’m always impressed with how real the characters in your fiction seem, and how sympathetically you portray the ones in your autobiographical work.

Also, the colors in this are whoa.

really beautiful colouring, and lovely treatment of the topic. soseki also wrote a beautiful book on a young man learning from his sensei, sad ending, but great book, Kokoro.

Now I’m going to try to observe people more. I know I can get wrapped up in my own personal world so tightly, especially while checking email. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, GB!

This one of the most beautiful and thoughtful things I’ve read in a long, long time.

I loved this one, Gabrielle, probably because it resonates so much for me. I also appreciate the literary and philosophical references you make, being that I’m not as well-read. In other news, I just found and listened to an interview you did a few years back for the Inkstuds podcast, and did I tell you Joyce Brabner spoke favorably of your work when I met her a month or so ago?

Yes, I did. Now, if I could only find the copies of your work that you gave Harvey in this shipwrecked house of mine. He never threw much away, so they have to be somewhere, unless our Danielle monkeyed off with them…

Thank you all. I am now going to stop moderating my comments. As soon as I figure out how.

A few days ago, in the subway, you looked out the window.
Now, you climbed out the window.
Will you turn into a window?

I like a lot the composition of the three last panels.
The whole strip is very well-balanced.
    Impressive work.

I love how when you change your perspective, you literally change the perspective of the the comic. Exquisite. Also I am in love with the sixth panel.

    This is lovely.

It reminds me of the quote by Iris Murdoch that you probably already know: “Love is the extremely difficult realisation that something other than oneself is real”
